Plan 01

1 day at Agonda Beach

  1. 01

Day 1: A slow beach day

Start with breakfast at Zest Cafe or Mandala Cafe, then walk the beach early while it is cool. Stop at St Anne's Church at the centre for its landmark and history. Have a late seafood lunch at Madhu's Beach Huts Restaurant or a thali at Fatima's Corner, rest through the hottest hours and return to the sand for sunset. Finish with dinner and dessert at Kopi Desa.

Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.

Plan 02

2 days at Agonda Beach

  1. 01

Day 1: Beach, church and sunset

Walk the beach in the morning and have breakfast at a village café. After a rest, visit St Anne's Church and look at the beach from the north end near the river. Have dinner at Kopi Desa.

  2. 02

Day 2: Yoga and Cola Beach

Take a morning drop-in class at Sampoorna Yoga if you wish, then breakfast at Mandala Cafe. Take a half-day trip to Cola Beach, about 10 km north, and return in time for a late lunch and sunset on Agonda.

Sampoorna Yoga90 minutes per classEasyEarly morning, mid-October to mid-May

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Cola Beach: The road in is rough in places, and the way down to the sand includes a short walk on rocky or red-earth paths. There is little seating and limited medical help nearby, so older visitors should weigh the effort.

Plan 03

    Day 1: Arrive and settle

Check in near the church, walk the beach at sunset and eat at Fatima's Corner or Madhu's Beach Huts Restaurant. Keep the evening quiet.

Pacing

Pacing a Agonda Beach trip for parents and children

  • Book a stay near the church or the quiet north end with a fan or air-conditioning, and ask about steps at the porch. Many huts are raised.
  • Swim only near lifeguards, only in calm conditions, and never in the monsoon or after dark. Waves here can be large and the water is not ideal for easy swimming.
  • Walk early or late. Between noon and three the sand is hot, and shade is limited on the beach.
  • Carry cash, water and sun protection. Many small places do not take cards, and mobile networks can be patchy on some operators.
  • Eat early in busy weeks, ask for less spice and stay with bottled or filtered water. Check that shacks and cafés are open before you set out.
  • Hire a car or taxi for Cola Beach or Palolem, as local buses are infrequent and the last return can be early evening.
