Why it matters
Why Rajmergarh Hilltop is worth your time
Rajmergarh shows a side of Amarkantak beyond the temples and springs: the open plateau and sal forest that cover the meeting point of the Maikal hills. Few visitors come, so the views are usually your own. It also crosses into Chhattisgarh, a reminder that the Amarkantak plateau is shared by two states and two networks of forest.
The area is close to the Achanakmar–Amarkantak forests. Keep to roads and paths, avoid noise, and take everything back out.

How to experience it
From Amarkantak, the road to Rajmergarh runs about 14 km through dense forest across the state border into Chhattisgarh. The last stretch towards the campsite area is on an unpaved road. At the top, open ground gives wide views over the plateau and the forested valleys below.
Walk out along the edges in the morning, when the light is clear and birds are active. The forest here is mostly sal, and the plateau has very little habitation, so it is quiet and shaded.
Rajmergarh was the starting point of a multi-day jungle trek to Keonchi and Lakshman Dhara run with Chhattisgarh Tourism; check locally whether any guided walks currently run. Carry water and food, as nothing is available on the hilltop.
