How to reach Anandpur Sahib by air

The nearest major airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), roughly 80-90 km away, about two hours by road depending on traffic. Taxis and pre-booked cars are the usual way to cover the last stretch.

How to reach Anandpur Sahib by train

Anandpur Sahib railway station (ANSB) is on the Chandigarh-Nangal line, and some trains stop here. Rupnagar (Ropar) is the larger railhead to the south. Check timetables and whether your train stops before booking.

How to reach Anandpur Sahib by road

National Highway 503 links Anandpur Sahib with Kiratpur Sahib and Chandigarh, and the route continues north towards Nangal and Himachal Pradesh. It is about 80 km from Chandigarh and a few hours from Delhi by road. Buses run from the main cities in Punjab and Himachal.

Getting around Anandpur Sahib

The main shrines are a few kilometres apart. Autos and local taxis connect them, a hired car and driver is easiest for the fort sites, and the old-town gurdwaras can be done on foot. Traffic is heavy at festival times.

Easy transfers to and in Anandpur Sahib

  • Visit outside Hola Mohalla, Vaisakhi and Diwali if crowds are a concern; on festival days the roads and shrines are packed and walking distances grow.
  • Gurdwaras require bare feet and a covered head, and the marble floors can be very hot in summer and cold in winter. Carry socks if the gurdwara allows them and wear light clothing you can fold away.
  • Use a car or local auto to hop between the shrines instead of walking in the heat; the distances are short but the traffic is heavy.
  • Virasat-e-Khalsa has long walkways and galleries; take the morning, sit often and ask about wheelchairs or assistance at the entrance.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
