Plan 01
1 day in Annavaram
- 01
Day 1: Early darshan and the vratam
Reach the foot of Ratnagiri hill soon after the gates open so you are in the queue before the crowd builds. Go up by road if anyone in the group cannot manage the steps, and walk down the steps afterwards if you wish. Take darshan of the main deity, then the Rama shrine and the Vana Durga temple. If you have booked a vratam, schedule it for the morning. Collect prasadam from the counters before leaving, rest through the hot afternoon, and finish with the Pampa river viewpoint at the foot of the hill.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Vana Durga Temple 15-30 minutes Easy Friday for the homam; weekday mornings otherwise Pampa River Viewpoint 30-60 minutes Easy Early morning or late afternoon; after monsoon for the river and the fields Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
Plan 02
2 days in Annavaram
- 01
Day 1: The temple and the hill
Spend the first morning on darshan, the vratam and the shrines around the main temple, then rest. In the late afternoon, walk some of the steps down for the view over the village and the river, or sit near the Pampa river as the light drops.
- 02
Day 2: Nearby shrines
Drive north towards Tuni to Talupulamma Lova, a forest-hill goddess temple that is quiet outside festival days. If you prefer the Kakinada side, Pithapuram has the Kukkuteswara temple complex and the Puruhutika Devi shrine. Check the road conditions and temple hours before choosing.
Plan 03
3 days in Annavaram
- 01
Day 1: Main temple
Darshan, vratam and prasadam, with a long break after lunch. Avoid trying to add other sights.
- 02
Day 2: The hill and river
Climb or drive the hill again at a different hour, spend time at the Rama and Vana Durga shrines, and walk along the Pampa river at the foot of the hill.
- 03
Day 3: Towards Tuni or Kakinada
Choose Talupulamma Lova towards Tuni, or Pithapuram and Uppada on the Kakinada side. Neither is essential; both make sense if you have a car and want a gentler second day.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Annavaram trip for parents and children
- Go up by vehicle on the ghat road rather than the steps; the hill has around 460 steps, so treat the walk down as optional.
- Aim for a weekday morning. Weekends, festival days and Karthika month are much slower in the queue.
- Consider the paid fast-track darshan if standing in a long queue is difficult; check the current ticket price and what it includes at the temple.
- Dress modestly and comfortably: the temple asks for decent dress, and you may have to walk barefoot on stone that gets hot by midday.
- Carry water, a hat and any medicines, and rest in the afternoon before any second activity.
- Wheelchair and mobility arrangements should be checked with the Devasthanam office on the day; do not assume lifts or ramps at every shrine.
