Enter the compound from the main gate. You will see the mosque on one side and the tomb on the other, both in simple stone construction. The tomb of Aurangzeb sits in a modest square chamber with a cenotaph visible in the interior. Read the history while you stand there. Aurangzeb expanded the Mughal empire to its greatest extent, spent his life in campaigns, and in his last years withdrew to Khuldabad, a holy place for Sufi saints. Walk around the compound. You will see other tombs of Aurangzeb's family and of saints. The whole setting is peaceful and away from the main tourist routes, which is why it feels right. Spend half an hour here, then continue to Grishneshwar temple nearby or head back to Aurangabad.
