Soneri Mahal was built by a nobleman in the Mughal court around the 17th–18th century, during the height of Aurangabad's importance as a regional capital. It shows how the smaller courts and nobles adopted and adapted Mughal architectural styles with local materials and decorative traditions.

Enter through the main gate and pause in the courtyard. The facade shows the golden-ochre stone that gives the palace its name, Soneri (golden).
