The short answer
Best areas to stay in Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar)
- 01
Aurangpura (old city, silk bazaar area)
Best for: Travellers who want to be in the bazaar atmosphere and close to Bibi Ka Maqbara
Walking distance from silk shops and the mausoleum. Trade-offs are traffic noise, congestion and narrow lanes where cars cannot always reach the hotel door. Several budget and mid-range hotels here. Check lift access and parking carefully if you are travelling with elders.
- 02
Jalna Road (main commercial area)
Best for: Practical base with good restaurants and easy transport
Central, busy location with mid-range and good hotels, restaurants and shops. About 10–15 minutes by auto to Bibi Ka Maqbara. Quieter than the old bazaar but louder than residential areas. A safe, convenient choice for families and seniors.
- 03
Ajinkyatara (Daulatabad area, south of the city)
Best for: Travellers visiting Daulatabad Fort and wanting a quieter setting
Quieter residential area with some good heritage hotels. About 20–30 minutes by road to the city centre. You will depend on a car or auto for sightseeing. Good for a night between cave visits.
- 04
Airport area (North Ward)
Best for: Convenient if you have early or late flights, or want to avoid the city
Quieter, with some good business hotels. About 30–40 minutes by auto to the old city and bazaars. Less atmosphere and fewer dining options than the city centre.

Before you book
What to check when booking for older travellers
- Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
- Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
- Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
- Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
- Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.

Comfort notes for Aurangabad (Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar)
- Hire a car and driver for the duration of your stay; it protects you from heat, traffic and long walks between sights.
- Bibi Ka Maqbara, Panchakki and the city's museums are relatively level; Ajanta and Ellora involve significant stairs and uneven ground. Do not undertake the caves without consulting your doctor.
- Choose a hotel on Jalna Road or in a quiet residential area like Aurangpura if access to restaurants and shops matters. Avoid staying in very narrow bazaar lanes if mobility is limited.
- The Grishneshwar Temple is 30+ km away and requires a full morning. Khuldabad is doable as a half-day trip if you are comfortable with 1–1.5 hours of gentle walking over old lanes.
