- 01
Port Blair (day-trip base)
Best for: Most visitors, and anyone travelling with older parents
Good to know: Stay in Port Blair and go for a long day trip. You get proper hotels and rest before and after, but you must leave before dawn and return after dark.
- 02
Near Nilambur jetty, Baratang
Best for: Travellers who want to see Parrot Island at dusk and avoid the same-day return
Good to know: Accommodation is very limited. Guesthouses near the jetty are largely taken by officials and need to be booked far ahead through the proper channels. Check availability before committing to an overnight plan.
- 03
Rangat or Mayabunder (further north)
Best for: Travellers continuing up the Andaman Trunk Road
Good to know: Both towns are on the highway north of Baratang. They give more options than the jetty area but add time. Confirm bookings and transport in advance.

Before you book
What to check when booking for older travellers
- Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
- Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
- Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
- Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
- Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
