Getting around
Hired car with driver for Kiradu and out-of-town sights; autos in town. Public transport to remote ruins is limited.

How to reach Barmer by air

Barmer has no scheduled commercial service that this guide could verify. Jaisalmer (JSA) is about 160 km away by road and Jodhpur (JDH) about 200 km, roughly 3 to 4 hours either way. A civil airport near Uttarlai has been approved on paper; check current status before relying on it.

How to reach Barmer by train

Barmer (BME) is on Station Road, on the Marwar Junction–Munabao line in North Western Railway's Jodhpur division. Direct services run to Jodhpur, Jaipur and some long-distance destinations. Check current services before booking.

How to reach Barmer by road

NH 25 runs from Munabao through Barmer, Balotra and Jodhpur towards Beawar, about 483 km in total and recently widened to four lanes. Jodhpur is about 200 km east by road; Jaisalmer is reached by a separate route.

Getting around Barmer

Autos serve the town, but most sights lie outside it. Kiradu is about 35 km out, so a private car with a driver is the practical choice. Agree the route and waiting time before leaving.

Easy transfers to and in Barmer

  • Kiradu has little shade or seating and uneven stone. Wear closed, grippy shoes, carry a hat and water, and sit out the walk between temples if needed.
  • Long drives are the real strain. Budget half a day each for the Balotra-side sights and take breaks.
  • Carry any regular medication and a small first-aid kit; hospital choice is in the town, not at the sights.
  • Hire a car with a driver who knows the Kiradu road and keep fuel and phone charge topped up before leaving town.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
