The short answer

Best areas to stay in Bengaluru

  1. 01

    Indiranagar ("100 Feet Road" area)

Best for: Travellers who want good restaurants, bookshops, and easy access to central sights

A tree-lined, walkable neighbourhood with independent cafés, restaurants and shops. Hotels here range from budget to mid-range. About 20–30 minutes by car to Lalbagh and the old city, but the neighbourhood itself is pleasant for an evening wander.

  2. 02

    Koramangala

Best for: Younger travellers and those seeking cafés, bars and shopping

Bengaluru's trendy neighbourhood, full of independent shops, restaurants and nightlife. Boutique hotels are common. For families and older travellers seeking quiet, this may be too lively.

  3. 03

Cubbon Park area (near Vidhana Soudha)

Best for: Those wanting proximity to the civic sights and museums

Central and close to Lalbagh, Cubbon Park and Vidhana Soudha. Hotels here are mostly mid-range and business-oriented. The area is quieter than Koramangala but less charming than Indiranagar.

  4. 04

    Basavanagudi

Best for: Travellers seeking authenticity and neighbourhood character

An older, quieter neighbourhood with the Bull Temple, local restaurants and a village-like atmosphere within the city. Fewer hotels, but homestays and small lodges offer genuine neighbourhood experiences.

  5. 05

Whitefield (eastern side, towards the airport)

Best for: Those preferring resort-style stays and modern amenities

A newer, more developed area with chain hotels and shopping malls. Further from the old city and heritage sites, better suited for those who want modern comfort over neighbourhood character.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.

For parents and senior travellers

Comfort notes for Bengaluru

  • Bengaluru's elevation (900 m) and cooler mornings make it pleasant for older travellers compared to the plains. Still, avoid midday exertion in April–May.
  • Lalbagh, Cubbon Park and Visvesvaraya Museum are level and comfortable. Bull Temple and Dodda Basaveshwara involve some stairs but nothing steep.
  • Hire a car and driver for the day. Many sights have poor public transport connectivity, and the distances between neighbourhoods make taxis or autos a constant necessity.
  • Hospitals and pharmacies are concentrated around Indiranagar, Koramangala and near Vidhana Soudha. Note the nearest one to your hotel.
