Plan 01
1 day in Bhadrachalam
- 01
Day 1: Temple, river and a Hanuman shrine
Start early at the Abhayanjaneya Swamy shrine, which devotees traditionally visit before the Rama temple, then go to Sri Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple for darshan, ideally on a weekday. Allow a slow late morning for the temple precinct and the northern Vaikuntha Dwaram entrance. Rest through the hot afternoon, then walk down to the Godavari ghat in the evening light and watch the river and the boats.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Sri Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple 2 to 3 hours Moderate Weekday mornings from October to February; avoid Brahmotsavam and Vaikuntha Ekadasi unless you have booked Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Sri Sita Ramachandraswamy Temple: The precinct is largely level stone, but queues can be long and floors get hot in the sun. Older visitors should carry water, wear socks, go early and ask staff about wheelchairs or special queues.
Plan 02
2 days in Bhadrachalam
- 01
Day 1: The temple and the ghat
Do the Abhayanjaneya shrine and the Rama temple in the morning, keep the middle of the day for rest, and spend the evening on the Godavari riverfront.
- 02
Day 2: Parnasala and Gundala
Hire a car for Parnasala, about 32 km away, which is traditionally linked to Rama's hermitage during exile. Return via Gundala, a short distance from town, where a natural hot spring is a local bathing spot; check how it is managed before you plan to bathe.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Parnasala Half a day Easy October to February Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
Plan 03
3 days in Bhadrachalam
- 01
Day 1: Temple and river
Abhayanjaneya shrine, the Rama temple and a quiet evening at the ghat. Read a little about Gopanna before you go so that the temple's story makes sense.
- 02
Day 2: Parnasala and Gundala
A half-day car trip to Parnasala and the Godavari bank there, then Gundala on the way back, with a rest after lunch.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Parnasala Half a day Easy October to February Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
- 03
Day 3: Kinnerasani, the barrage, or Papikondalu
Choose one. Kinnerasani (about 25 km) suits a shaded, easy outing. Dummugudem is a short drive to see an old Godavari barrage. In the cooler season, with river levels normal, the Papikondalu cruise from Pochavaram takes most of a day; confirm that boats are running first.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Bhadrachalam trip for parents and children
- Visit the temple on a weekday and early in the day; festival periods bring long queues and barricaded routes.
- Ask the temple authorities about wheelchairs, special queues and darshan arrangements for elders, and book any online tickets in advance.
- Wear easy footwear you can remove quickly and carry water; stone surfaces get hot by late morning in summer.
- The riverbank has steps and uneven edges; use the handrails where present and avoid going down in high-water periods.
- Hire a car with a driver for Parnasala, Kinnerasani and Pochavaram rather than relying on local buses.
- Plan a midday rest; mean highs exceed 39 degrees in April and May.
