1 day in Bharmour

Day 1: The temple town
Arrive early enough to walk into the Chaurasi courtyard while it is quiet, and spend an hour among the small Shiva shrines, the Manimahesh temple, the Narsingh temple and the brass Nandi. Step next door to the Lakshana Devi temple to study its carved wooden doorway. After lunch and a rest, go up to the Bharmani Mata temple, by car if the walk looks long for anyone in your group, and finish with evening aarti at Chaurasi if you are staying the night.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Lakshana Devi Temple 30 minutes Easy Morning light; any time the temple is open Bharmani Mata Temple 1-2 hours including the walk Moderate May to October; morning Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Bharmani Mata Temple: Accounts describe a climb of a couple of kilometres or a short drive; the path is uphill and the temple is at a higher altitude than town. Ask your driver whether the road is open and avoid the walk after rain or snow.

Visit the Bharmani Mata temple in the morning. Use the rest of the day for a drive towards Hadsar or the Kugti valley as far as the road and weather allow, then return for an early dinner.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Bharmour trip for parents and children
- Allow a full rest day after reaching Bharmour from the plains; the town is above 2,000 m and the long climb from Chamba tires many travellers.
- Carry motion-sickness tablets and any regular medicines in the car; the Chamba to Bharmour road is long, winding and can be slow after landslides.
- The Chaurasi courtyard is flat, so most of the temple sightseeing is easy; the walk to Bharmani Mata and any Hadsar or Kugti outing are the demanding parts, so take a vehicle where possible.
- Treat the Manimahesh trek as a serious high-altitude walk. If older family members want the pilgrimage, ask their doctor first and consider stopping at Hadsar.
- Pack warm layers even in summer, because evenings are cold and weather can turn quickly; in winter, check road and bus status before you set out.
- Mobile signal and ATMs can fail here; carry cash and tell someone your plan.
