The nearest airport is Raja Bhoj Airport, Bhopal (BHO), about 1.5 hours by road from Bhimbetka, depending on traffic. Indore is a longer drive.
How to reach Bhimbetka by train
Bhopal Junction (BPL) and Rani Kamalapati (RKMP) are the main stations, about 45 km away. A small station at Obedullaganj is about 9 km from the site, though few long-distance trains may stop there.
How to reach Bhimbetka by road
Bhimbetka lies south-east of Bhopal on the road towards Obedullaganj and Hoshangabad, about 45 km from the city. Cabs and private cars make the trip in roughly an hour to an hour and a half.
Getting around Bhimbetka
There is no local transport at the site: you walk the marked trail. Keep your cab for the day if you also plan to visit Bhojpur, about 25 km away.
For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Bhimbetka
- Carry water, a hat and some snacks; there are few facilities on the trail.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
