Day 1: Ghats, ashram and memorial
Reach Bithoor in the morning and start at Brahmavart Ghat, where you can watch the bathing, see the horseshoe nail and visit the Brahmeshwar Mahadeva shrine. Walk or ride to Valmiki Ashram to see the Peshwa-era temple, the Sita Samadhi and, if you are steady, the lamp tower. Have a simple lunch and rest. In the afternoon visit the Nana Rao Peshwa Smarak Park, then take a late boat ride along the ghats. Return to Kanpur before dark.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Brahmavart Ghat 45–90 minutes Moderate Early morning, October to March; Kartik Purnima is atmospheric but very crowded Valmiki Ashram 60–90 minutes Moderate Morning or late afternoon, October to March Nana Rao Peshwa Smarak Park 45–60 minutes Easy Morning or late afternoon, October to March Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Brahmavart Ghat: The ghat is reached by steep flights of steps with little shade or seating, and the stone gets slippery near the water. Elders can sit at the top and enjoy the view, or go down with a helper and firm footwear. Avoid the steps in peak midday sun.
With parents at Valmiki Ashram: The compound is mostly level and has shade, but the lamp tower has about 48 steps with a narrow stair and no handrail guarantee. Seats are limited. Elders can enjoy the courtyards, the shrines and the Sita Samadhi enclosure without climbing.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Bithoor trip for parents and children
- Visit the ghats in the morning and avoid the steps in midday sun. Sit at the top if the descent feels risky.
- Use the boat ride to see the ghats from the water; it replaces steps with sitting, but board with a helper.
- Do the Nana Rao Peshwa Smarak Park and Siddhidham Ashram for level walking if energy is low.
- Skip the Valmiki Ashram lamp tower unless stairs are comfortable; the courtyards and shrines are worth seeing without it.
- Carry water, snacks and any medicines, because facilities are basic.
- Avoid Kartik Purnima, Maghi Purnima and Makar Sankranti if you want a quiet visit.
