The short answer

Giuseppe Pizzeria & Sicilian Roast, Tawala: what visitors should know first

Worth a dinner if your group wants familiar pizza and pasta after several days of rice and grilled fish. It is a meat-friendly Italian menu, not a vegetarian restaurant, so confirm dishes and hours before going, and take a tricycle or taxi from Alona.

Why it matters

Why Giuseppe Pizzeria & Sicilian Roast, Tawala is worth your time

Giuseppe's is one of the few Panglao restaurants that turned up in four separate guides we opened, from a 2014 television news list to recent blog and travel-site round-ups. That does not make it the best, but it does make it one of the names people meet most often when they plan a meal on the island.

For families travelling from India it fills a practical gap. Panglao has plenty of grilled seafood and Filipino food; a pizza and pasta menu gives children and fussy eaters a safe order, and the restaurant sits inland of the beach strip, away from the busiest part of Alona. Be honest with yourselves about the transfer: you need a vehicle, and the evening is easier if the driver waits or you book the return in advance.

Highlights

What not to miss

  1. 01

    Wood-fired pizza

Several guides lead with the pizza. Ask which pizzas can be made without meat.

  2. 02

    Pasta and Sicilian dishes

One guide names ravioli with spinach and ricotta and a lamb shank with risotto. Check what is on the current menu.

  3. 03

    Away from the beach strip

In Tawala rather than on Alona's main lane, so it is a calmer evening if you arrange transport.

Plan your visit

How to experience it

Go in the evening and treat it as the Italian night of the trip. The guides we read describe wood-fired or brick-oven pizza and pasta, and one lists dishes such as ravioli with spinach and ricotta, lamb shank with risotto and a pizza called gregorio. Menus change, so treat those as examples rather than a promise.

It sits in Tawala, roughly 1 km from Alona Beach by one guide's estimate, which is too far for an easy walk after dark for most older travellers. Arrange a taxi or tricycle both ways and agree the return fare before you leave the hotel.

Vegetarians should ask before ordering. A vegan-eating write-up lists Giuseppe's for pizza with vegan toppings, but we did not find a full vegetarian menu, so we have not tagged it. Ask about cheese, anchovy and meat stock in each dish, and share a pizza between two so that the table can try several plates without over-ordering.

Plan with confidence

Small checks that make a better meal.

  • Reserve a table and confirm opening days
  • Arrange a taxi or tricycle both ways
  • Ask which dishes are meat-free before ordering

FAQs

Is Giuseppe's vegetarian-friendly?

It is a mixed menu. One write-up lists pizza with vegan toppings, but we found no full vegetarian menu, so ask about each dish.

Where is it?

In Tawala on Panglao Island. One guide puts it about 975 metres from Alona Beach, so plan on transport rather than a walk.

Do I need to book?

We found no booking rule. Calling ahead for dinner is sensible, especially for a group.
