The short answer

Bulabog Beach: what visitors should know first

Go if you want to watch or try kiteboarding in the amihan months; skip it for a relaxing swim, since travel guides warn about water quality and wind. Treat it as a half-hour viewing stop or a lesson day, not a beach day.

History and context

The story behind Bulabog Beach

The beach has hosted the Boracay International Funboard Cup, usually in January. Boracay's two main beaches face opposite directions: White Beach west and Bulabog east.

Why it matters

Why Bulabog Beach is worth your time

Bulabog is the other side of Boracay's character. White Beach is for calm water and sunsets, while Bulabog is the windy side where the island's watersports are concentrated. Having both within a short ride means one mixed itinerary can cover a quiet beach morning and an action afternoon.

For Indian families it is mostly a spectator's stop, but it is also a good reminder to match the activity to the month. Between November and April the wind supports kiteboarding and the weather is mostly dry, while in the habagat months the pattern flips and White Beach sees the rougher water.

Plan your visit

How to experience it

Bulabog faces east, so it gets the amihan wind that makes White Beach so calm on the other side. That wind blows towards the shore here, and the reef-protected water lets kiteboarders and windsurfers ride with relatively little risk, which is why the island's schools are based here. The Boracay International Funboard Cup is usually held on this beach in January.

For most visitors, the sensible way to use Bulabog is as a viewing stop. Take a tricycle from the White Beach side, sit at a beachfront cafe and watch the kites. If someone in your group wants to learn, book a school the day before and ask about the wind forecast, since the best conditions are in the cooler months and the schools suit adults and teenagers better than young children.

Do not plan to swim here. Travel guides have warned about sewage-affected water in this area, so check recent local advice, and use White Beach for swimming instead.

Plan with confidence

Event-led places reward a little planning.

  • Book lessons the day before
  • Do not rely on Bulabog for swimming
  • Carry sun protection and water
  • Check wind conditions for the day
