Why it matters

Why Mount Luho is worth your time

On a flat resort island, a single viewpoint makes the geography make sense. From Mount Luho you see that Boracay is a thin strip with the beach on one side and the windy coast on the other, which helps in choosing where to stay and which side to visit on which day.

It is also one of the few non-beach activities that needs no booking and little effort, which makes it a useful fallback for a family when the weather is too hot or too rough for the sea.

How to experience it

Mount Luho is the highest point on Boracay at about 92 m (302 ft), which is modest by mainland standards but enough to see the island's shape. A view deck here is shown in Wikimedia Commons photographs looking across the coast, with White Beach and the sea beyond. Ask your tricycle driver or hotel to arrange the trip, and agree whether he will wait.

Go in the morning, when the air is clearer and the heat lower. The point of the visit is orientation: from above you can see how narrow the island is, how the resorts line the west coast and where the east-coast beaches sit. Spend about half an hour on the platform, then return to your base.

For older travellers the visit is gentle compared with a hike, because the vehicle takes you most of the way. Still, confirm how close it can drop you and whether the final approach has stairs. If the sky is overcast, move it to another day.

Plan with confidence

Small decisions that make the visit easier.
