The short answer

Talasari Beach: what visitors should know first

Only if you want a second, quieter beach and have a car. It is far, about 88 to 90 km from Balasore, and facilities are minimal. For most visitors Chandipur is enough; combine Talasari with a night in nearby Digha if you want to see both.

Why it matters

Why Talasari Beach is worth your time

Talasari is one of the less-visited beaches on the Odisha coast, which is its appeal. Sand dunes, fishing hamlets and the mangroves of Bichitrapur sit close by, and the Subarnarekha estuary adds to the scenery.

It matters here because it shows how different Odisha's coast can be from Chandipur's tidal flats: green, breezy and slow. It is worth the drive only if you value that over convenience, and it makes a useful contrast if you have already walked the flats at Chandipur and want to see what the rest of this north-eastern shoreline looks like.

Highlights

What not to miss

  1. 01

    Palm-lined shore

The name means a row of palms, and the beach is edged with coconut, palm and casuarina trees.

  2. 02

    Red crabs

Small red crabs scuttle across the sand, particularly at quiet hours.

  3. 03

    Subarnarekha estuary

The river meets the sea nearby; crossing may need a boat when the water is high.

How to experience it

Talasari is a long drive from Chandipur, roughly 88 to 90 km from Balasore according to different sources, so treat it as a full day or a stopover on the way to or from West Bengal. The name comes from the Odia for palm and row, after the palms along the shore, and the beach also has coconut and casuarina trees. It is windy and the water is generally calm.

A quay serves as a morning fish market, and red crabs can be seen on the sand. Whether you walk across the dry riverbed or need a boat to reach the main beach depends on the state of the Subarnarekha, so ask locally. There are only a few small hotels and a government rest house.

The nearest well-known resort is Digha, across the border in West Bengal, about 7 to 10 km away depending on the source. Do not expect restaurants or shade; carry what you need.

Plan with confidence

Small decisions that make the visit easier.

  • Check river level and boat access before you go
  • Carry water and food; facilities are minimal
  • Plan a full day for the drive
  • Confirm any border or permit issues if you cross to West Bengal
  • Go in the morning to see the fish quay
