The short answer

When to go to Chiang Rai

The best window is November to February, when mornings are cool, rainfall is low and the hills are pleasant. March and April are hot, and regional crop burning can affect air quality, though we have not verified the level for Chiang Rai. The rainy season from about June to October is green but wet, and August is the wettest month, which can slow hill drives. For older travellers, plan temples in the morning and keep long drives to dry months.
