Why it matters
Why Thalis is worth your time
Thalis is one of the few central Colombo restaurants that two separate guides describe as vegetarian Indian. For families used to thalis and dosas, a menu they recognise removes the daily guesswork of asking what is in each curry.
Park Road puts it within reach of the city centre, so it works as a lunch break after the museum or the park. Treat the guide details as dated and check the restaurant before you plan around it.

How to experience it
Order a thali. Both guides name it as the dish to try, and Life.lk describes both South and North Indian versions. The menu also has soups, juices and lassi, and an Indian-Chinese section with hot and sour soup, mushroom Manchurian and vegetable balls in hot garlic sauce.
A 2017 Life.lk review describes friendly staff who help diners through a large menu, and big portions, so a family can share three or four dishes. Ask the staff to suggest a mix of North and South Indian items.
The restaurant is described as vegetarian, not specifically free of egg, onion or garlic. Jain diners should not assume anything; ask what can be cooked without onion and garlic and treat the answer as a courtesy, not a certificate.
Plan with confidence
Small checks that make a better meal.
- Ask about egg, onion and garlic if strict
- Do not assume Jain food
- Check current opening hours
- Share dishes among the group
