Why it matters

Why Da Lat Cathedral (Rooster Church) is worth your time

The cathedral is a reminder of Da Lat's French founding and the missionary presence in the highlands. It is also a living parish, so it shows another side of the city's life.

Its rooster weathervane is one of the town's best-known small symbols, and the stained glass gives the interior a warm light. It is an easy stop for older travellers and can anchor a walk around the lake. Seen from the lake side, the pink-toned tower also helps you orient yourself in the centre.

Plan your visit

How to experience it

Look at the facade and tower first, noting the bronze rooster at the top of the bell tower, which rises to roughly 47 metres. Step inside quietly and sit for a while to see the stained glass panels in the upper walls.

If Mass is under way, wait outside or sit quietly at the back. Dress modestly and avoid flash photography. The cathedral is close to the lake and the heritage hotel, so it fits well into a walking loop.

There may be vendors and cafes nearby; take a rest and compare the building's French influence with the pine-covered hills behind.

Plan with confidence

Visit as a guest, not a spectator.

  • Check Mass times
  • Dress modestly
  • Do not use flash
  • Combine with a lake walk
