How to experience it
Arrange a pre-arranged jeep pickup from your hotel at 4 am or 4.30 am. The drive takes roughly 40 minutes on a winding road through tea gardens and forest. You will arrive at the hilltop viewpoint before dawn, where local vendors sell tea and snacks. Once the sun rises over the Tibetan plateau, the peaks light up: Kanchenjunga (3,636 m, the world's third-highest) dominates, with Makalu, Lhotse and Everest visible on clear mornings to the right.
The light changes fast: orange, gold, then white within 20 minutes. After the initial rush, most tourists leave by 6.30 am, so if you can linger without the crowds it feels different. Some visitors rest at the café and return to the city as the mist clears, others walk a short way into the tea gardens around the hill. The return drive is downhill and quicker, taking about 30 minutes.

Is the view always clear at Tiger Hill?
No. Cloud and mist often obscure the peaks, especially after 7 am and during the monsoon (June–September). Aim for October–November or March–April, and hope for fair weather.
Can you see Everest from Tiger Hill?
On very clear days, yes. Everest is about 140 km away, so it is a small peak on the horizon to the right of Kanchenjunga. Local guides can point it out if conditions allow.
