The short answer
New Digha Beach: what visitors should know first
Yes, especially if you are staying in this area. New Digha has more space than the old town and is within reach of most of the sights. Treat it as a sunrise-and-sunset beach, watch the sea state, and do not expect clear water.

Why it matters
Why New Digha Beach is worth your time
New Digha shows how the resort has spread. Digha began around the older settlement and grew along the coast, and New Digha is where the newer hotels, the Science Centre and several family attractions sit. It matters because it makes the town workable for more than a day trip: you can stay near the sea and reach sights without battling the old town's traffic.
The sea is the same Bay of Bengal, silty and shallow, and the shoreline faces the same erosion pressures as the rest of the coast. The beach's appeal is its scale and ease: a long, open shore, gentle waves and an unhurried holiday rhythm that has drawn Bengali families for generations.

How to experience it
New Digha is the more spacious half of the resort. The beach is broad, the road behind it is less choked than in Old Digha, and several of Digha's sights are close by: the science centre, Amrabati Park and its neighbour, Sindhur Tara church, and the Jagannath temple near the railway station. That makes it the practical base for families who want to walk to the sea in the morning and visit attractions in the afternoon without long transfers.
Spend the sunrise hour on the sand, when the beach is calm and the light is soft. The shore is shallow and slopes gently, so children can paddle at the edge, but swim only where the water is calm and locals are in it, and never when the sea is rough. Come back in the late afternoon to watch the sky change and the evening crowd gather.
Between sessions, rest. The beach is exposed and there is little natural shade, so the middle of the day is better spent at the science centre, the aquarium or your hotel. Expect a busy shoreline at weekends and holidays and a much easier pace on weekdays outside peak season.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
