Plan 01
1 day in Doodhpathri
- 01
Day 1: Srinagar to the meadow and back
Leave Srinagar early, drive through Budgam to Khansahib and stock up on water and snacks at the junction. Stop briefly at Tangnar on the climb, reach the meadow by mid-morning and walk the edge slowly. Eat a picnic, then walk or ride a pony to the Shaliganga for an hour. Start down by mid-afternoon so the steep stretch is in daylight, and be back in Srinagar by evening.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Tangnar 30–60 minutes Easy Spring for blossom; any clear day from April to September Pace: All the stops today are easy on the legs.
Plan 02
2 days in Doodhpathri

Day 1: The meadow and the stream
Spend the day as in the one-day plan, but stay at Srinagar or in a basic hut if you have confirmed one, so you are not rushing. Add the walk to Mujpathri if energy allows.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Mujpathri 1–2 hours Moderate May to September; avoid wet days when the track turns muddy Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Mujpathri: The route is on foot or by pony over uneven ground, so it is better for steady walkers. There is no seating and no shelter on the way, and phone coverage is patchy. If someone tires, turn back; the meadow viewpoint is a better use of limited energy.

Day 2: Tosamaidan or Charar-e-Sharief
Take a separate day for Tosamaidan, which is a long drive on rougher roads, or for a calm visit to the Charar-e-Sharief shrine, which is on a different road. Check road access before you leave.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Tosamaidan A full day, usually from Srinagar Moderate Late spring to early autumn; check road status Charar-e-Sharief Shrine 45–60 minutes Easy Outside prayer peaks and the annual Urs, when crowds are large Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.
With parents at Tosamaidan: The drive is long and facilities are limited. The meadow itself is broad and open, with easy walking on grass, but there is little seating, shelter or medical help. Seniors who find a long, rough drive tiring may prefer the Doodhpathri meadow alone.

With parents at Mujpathri: The route is on foot or by pony over uneven ground, so it is better for steady walkers. There is no seating and no shelter on the way, and phone coverage is patchy. If someone tires, turn back; the meadow viewpoint is a better use of limited energy.
With parents at Palmaidan: The road is described as very rough, and the meadow has no seating, shade or toilets. It is best for fit visitors or those happy to ride a pony. Seniors with back or knee trouble should stay at the main meadow instead.

Pacing
Pacing a Doodhpathri trip for parents and children
- Go in the warmer months; snow can close the road in winter and the altitude is cold even in May.
- Carry warm layers, water, a rug or folding stool and a basic first-aid kit; there are no pharmacies or hospitals at the meadow.
- The final 8–9 km of road is steep and winding, so choose an experienced driver and take breaks if anyone feels unwell.
- Skip the longer outings to Palmaidan and the Dikshal trek unless you have a vehicle and strength for rough ground.
- Leave Srinagar early and start the return by mid-afternoon so the steep stretch is in daylight.
- Cold: Even in May and June mornings and evenings are cold at 2,700 m. Carry a windproof jacket, hat and gloves.
