Area by area

Gili Islands neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

Gili Trawangan east coast and harbour strip

Best for: First-timers who want services and a choice of restaurants

Good to know: The most convenient base, with ATMs, clinics and dive shops. Evenings are loud, so choose a place set back from the main strip.

  2. 02

Gili Air east and south coast

Best for: Families and couples who want calm with services

Good to know: Closest to Lombok with easy boats. Quieter than Trawangan, with beachfront warungs, shops and clinics.

  3. 03

    Gili Meno beachfront

Best for: Travellers who want silence and short stays

Good to know: Smallest and quietest, with limited services. Bring cash and any medicines, and plan transfers for dinner trips.

Sights in this area: Gili Meno Turtle Sanctuary

  4. 04

Gili Trawangan west and north side

Best for: Older travellers who want quieter nights

Good to know: Away from the main strip, with fewer facilities and longer walks to the harbour. A cart makes it manageable.

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
