Plan 01

1 day in Gooty

  1. 01

    Day 1: Fort and cemetery

Reach the foot of Gooty hill at sunrise, buy water at the shop and climb to Murari Rao's seat. Descend before the heat, visit the European Cemetery if it is open, and rest through the afternoon. Use the evening for a walk in the town.

Plan 02

2 days in Gooty

  1. 01

    Day 1: Gooty Fort

Climb the fort early, rest at midday, and visit the cemetery in the late afternoon.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Gooty Fort2-3 hours including the climbDemandingEarly morning, November to February; avoid April to June

Pace: Gooty Fort involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.

With parents at Gooty Fort: The path is steep in places, with boulders to rest on and narrow gates higher up, and there is no shop, shade or seating at the top. It is not advised for anyone with knee, heart or balance problems; the foot of the hill and the lower walls give a gentler look.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Tadipatri

Drive to Tadipatri, about 50 km, and visit Chintala Venkataramana Temple first for the stone chariot, then Bugga Ramalingeswara Temple on the Penna river. Have lunch in the town and return in the afternoon.

Plan 03

3 days in Gooty

  1. 01

    Day 1: Gooty Fort

Climb at sunrise, rest at midday, and see the cemetery in the evening.

  3. 03

    Day 3: Penna Ahobilam

Drive toward Uravakonda to visit the Lakshmi Narasimha temple at Penna Ahobilam, allowing a full day with travel. Confirm darshan hours first.

Pacing

Pacing a Gooty trip for parents and children

  • The fort climb is steep and exposed; older travellers should consider seeing the foot of the hill and the cemetery instead.
  • Start early. Midday heat from March to June makes the plateau uncomfortable.
  • Carry plenty of water, since nothing is sold at the top of the fort and services at Penna Ahobilam are basic.
  • The Tadipatri temples are level and short, and are the easiest sights for older visitors.
  • Hire a car and driver for Tadipatri and Penna Ahobilam, and agree on a return plan before you climb the fort.
  • Heat: March to June is very hot on the plateau. Climb the fort at sunrise and rest from late morning.
