Day 1: The Tughlaq fort and Gujari Mahal

Start at the Shahi Darwaza when the fort opens and spend about two hours on the Diwan-e-Aam, the tehkhanas and Lat ki Masjid with its Ashokan pillar. Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Hisar trip for parents and children

  • Visit the fort and the outlying sites in the first hours after sunrise; there is almost no shade, and summer heat is severe.
  • Skip the underground tehkhanas if stairs are difficult; the Diwan-e-Aam and Lat ki Masjid are on level ground.
  • Hire one car and driver for Hansi, Agroha and Rakhigarhi rather than relying on buses.
  • Carry water, a hat and any medicines; facilities at the sites are limited.
  • Winter mornings can be cold and foggy, so carry a light layer from December to January.
  • Choose a hotel close to the fort and the bus stand to cut daily travel.
