The short answer
Imphal Peace Museum: what visitors should know first
Yes, for the Second World War story. Allow about an hour, go with a driver as it is outside the city, and check opening days. It is a calm place, not a graphic one.

Why it matters
Why Imphal Peace Museum is worth your time
The Imphal Peace Museum helps visitors see the 1944 battle from several sides, including soldiers from Britain, India, Japan and the Indian National Army. For Manipur it also acknowledges the civilian experience and the years that followed, which are often left out of purely military accounts.
That makes it a useful companion to the cemetery. One place commemorates the dead; the other asks how a region recovers from war, what peace requires and why the memory of 1944 still matters to people living in the valley today.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Take a car out to Maibam Lotpa Ching and begin at the museum building. The displays cover both the war years and the period after, and are designed to encourage reflection rather than glorify combat.
The site is also associated with the India Peace Memorial, built with Japanese support and inaugurated in 1994 to mark the 50th anniversary of the battle. Walk the surroundings and read the inscriptions slowly.
Pair the visit with Imphal War Cemetery for a half-day of reflection, and keep the afternoon open. Because this is outside the city, confirm the road and the opening times with your driver or hotel.
