Plan 01

1 day in Karmala

  1. 01

    Day 1: Fort and temple

Start at Karmala Fort in the morning, entering from the eastern side and seeing the gate, bastions and palace courtyard. Walk to the Kamala Bhavani temple for darshan and a look at the 96-step well, then rest through the afternoon before leaving.

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Karmala Fort: The ground is uneven, the ramparts cannot be walked continuously and some areas are used as dumps or are overgrown. Older visitors can see the main gate and bastions from the street and skip the wells and moat.

Plan 02

2 days in Karmala

  1. 01

    Day 1: Fort and temple

See Karmala Fort in the morning and the Kamala Bhavani temple after, keeping the afternoon free.

Guides for the stops on these routes

Pacing

Pacing a Karmala trip for parents and children

  • Visit the fort in the cool morning; shade is limited and ground uneven.
  • View the 96-step well from above rather than descending.
  • Avoid Navaratri and Kartik yatra days if crowds are hard on you.
  • Carry water, cash and any medicines; facilities are basic.
  • Arrange a car with a driver for the long drive to Bhigwan.
  • Heat: April and May are very hot on the plateau. Go in the first hours after sunrise.
