Why it matters
Why Nizam Sagar Dam is worth your time
Nizam Sagar was built by Mir Osman Ali Khan, the seventh Nizam, with work starting in 1923 and finishing in 1931. It is described as the oldest dam in Telangana and has long supplied water and irrigation to the region.
For visitors it adds a gentler modern chapter to the same story that Kaulas tells in stone: the Nizams, who held the fort until 1948, later shaped the landscape with irrigation works.

How to experience it
Treat the dam as a stop between the fort and the road home. It stands on the Manjira River, a tributary of the Godavari, and is about 3 km long and roughly 95 m high. The reservoir is large, and the view from the embankment gives a feel for the scale of the Nizam-era project.
Go in the cooler months, when the reservoir is fuller and the light is softer. Ask your driver where visitors are currently allowed to stand, and follow any signs about photography and restricted areas.
If you are returning via Medak, you can break the long drive here and have a snack before continuing. Do not rely on stalls or restaurants; carry water.
