How to reach Kausani by air

The nearest commercial airport is Pantnagar (PGH), about 178 km away, roughly 5 to 6 hours by road. Check which airlines are currently flying. Delhi is about 430 km by road.

How to reach Kausani by train

Kathgodam (KGM), near Haldwani, is the nearest major railhead, about 140 to 145 km from Kausani, or around 5 hours by road via Bhowali and Almora.

How to reach Kausani by road

Kausani is on the hill road from Kathgodam via Bhimtal, Bhowali and Almora, with Bageshwar and Garur beyond. Almora is about 52 km away. Landslides can slow the stretch after Almora in the monsoon.

Getting around Kausani

The ridge can be explored on foot, and local taxis handle short trips. For Baijnath, Bageshwar, Kot Bhramari and Rudradhari, hire a car and driver for the day.

Easy transfers to and in Kausani

  • Take the drive in stages: the road from Kathgodam is long and winding, so break the journey at Almora or Bhowali if anyone gets car-sick.
  • Carry regular medication and a basic kit; hospitals are limited in Kausani and the nearest larger facilities are in Almora or Bageshwar.
  • Keep a spare day in the plan; cloud can hide the peaks and heavy rain can delay roads.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
