Why it matters
Why Klong Plu Waterfall is worth your time
Klong Plu gives Koh Chang a second identity beyond its beaches: rainforest, streams and waterfalls inside a marine national park. For many visitors it is the island's best non-beach experience.
It also demonstrates why the island is protected. About 85 per cent of the island lies within the park, and the interior forest feeds the waterfalls that visitors come to see. For families, it is a rare chance to show children a rainforest stream without leaving the beach resort area for long. Go early and keep the pace gentle.

How to experience it
Start from the Klong Prao side and follow the forest path to the waterfall. A caption on Wikimedia Commons describes the trail from the beach as about 600 metres, while Wikivoyage puts the entrance about 3 km from the bay, so ask locally where your starting point is. Go early, when the forest is cool and the pool is quiet.
Bring a towel and grippy sandals. Swimming is common in the pool in the drier months, but flows and currents change quickly with rain, so check conditions before getting in. Take water and avoid leaving valuables unattended.
If you want a longer walk, Wikivoyage mentions a ranger-led cross-island trek from Than Mayom waterfall to Klong Plu; this is an 8 to 10 hour day and unsuitable for most senior travellers.
