Why it matters

Why Klong Dao Beach is worth your time

Klong Dao shows the middle path of Lanta tourism: enough services for comfort, but nothing like a Phuket-style strip. It is the natural first stop for travellers who arrive by ferry or van and want to settle in without a long drive.

It is also a practical base for families and older travellers. Pharmacies, restaurants, tour desks and the arrival pier are near, and the beach itself is gentle and wide.

How to experience it

Klong Dao is the beach closest to Saladan pier, so many first-time visitors start here. Wikivoyage describes about 3 km of fine white sand, the most developed stretch on the island yet rarely crowded, with the widest range of accommodation and amenities. A tuk-tuk or hotel pick-up from the pier is a short ride, and the walk along the sand takes you past cafes, bungalows and small shops.

Swim in the morning, when the sea is calm, then rest during the afternoon. Evenings are good for a seafood dinner with tables on the sand. Time for Lime, the cooking school, restaurant and bar, is on this beach, and the island's biggest concentration of Western and Thai restaurants is nearby.

Because it is the most developed beach, Klong Dao suits travellers who want convenience: shops, ATMs, tour desks and boat bookings are within a short ride. If you want a quieter beach, move south to Phra Ae or Kantiang Bay.

Plan with confidence

Small decisions that make the visit easier.

  • Book a beachfront or near-beach hotel
  • Carry cash for small shops and tuk-tuks
  • Check restaurant hours in the wet season
  • Swim in the morning when the sea is calmest
