Area by area

Lepakshi neighbourhoods compared

  1. 01

    Lepakshi village

Best for: Travellers who want to see the temple at opening time without a long drive

Good to know: Options in the village are limited, and facilities are basic. Check availability, room standards and bathroom access by phone before relying on a stay here, especially with parents.

  2. 02

    Hindupur

Best for: A practical base with more hotels, restaurants and a railway station

Good to know: About 15 km from the temple and on the main Bengaluru–Anantapur road corridor, with the most choice of rooms and meals nearby. Choose a hotel with a lift or ground-floor rooms if mobility is a concern.

  3. 03

    Bengaluru, north side

Best for: Those doing Lepakshi as a day trip from a city base

Good to know: Staying near the airport or in the north of the city shortens the drive. Lepakshi works well as an early-start day trip, but the return drive can be slow on weekend evenings.

  4. 04

    Puttaparthi

Best for: Combining Lepakshi with a Prasanthi Nilayam visit over two days

Good to know: The town has many simple guesthouses and hotels because of the ashram. It is a calmer base for pilgrims and older travellers, but is further from Lepakshi, so allow around an hour and a half each way.

Sights in this area: Puttaparthi and Prasanthi Nilayam

Before you book

What to check when booking for older travellers

  • Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
  • Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
  • Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
  • Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
  • Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
