The short answer
The Baboon House: what visitors should know first
Go if you want a burger or a Western meal away from local food. Beef and pork feature on the menu we saw, and alcohol is served, so it is a poor choice for strict vegetarians.

Why it matters
Why The Baboon House is worth your time
Not every family wants local food at every meal, and a Western cafe in the old town gives children and fussy eaters a familiar option. Three pages we opened, Wikivoyage, SAYS and Malaysia4u, name it, the most of any restaurant added here, which is our only stand-in for popularity.
It is not a place for vegetarians, Jain travellers or anyone avoiding pork or alcohol, since pork burgers and craft beer are named. Older travellers should note the short weekday hours and Tuesday closure.
Confirm the current menu and hours on the day, as the pages we read date from 2021 or earlier.

How to experience it
Wikivoyage lists The Baboon House at 89 Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock as a hamburger and Western place that also pours craft beer. SAYS names an aloha cheeseburger, a pork belly burger and a honey mustard chicken burger, and Malaysia4u lists it as a cafe and restaurant.
This is a break from Nyonya and Chinese food rather than a local specialty. Order a burger and share sides if you are two people; the portions are not described in the pages we opened. Pork is on the menu, so tell staff what you cannot eat. We did not see a vegetarian burger, and we cannot say whether one exists.
It sits on Heeren Street, close to the Baba and Nyonya Heritage Museum, so it fits as a pause between museum visits. Check the closed Tuesday and the shorter weekday hours first.
Plan with confidence
Small checks that make a better meal.
