The boat moves slowly along the shoreline and across open water, giving you time to spot movement in the forest edge. Wildlife sightings are not guaranteed, but presence is: the evergreen forest is dense and the water is peaceful. Bring binoculars. The guides speak Malayalam and English and know the forest animals well.
If you have energy and time, add a forest walk on the marked trails near the entrance, which are easier than the boat and take 1–2 hours. By mid-afternoon, drive back towards Munnar, stopping at any tea plantations or viewpoints along the way. The reserve is also famous for spice cultivation, and there are spice gardens near the entrance that sell cardamom, pepper and cloves.
