- Ask for a lift, or a ground-floor room — many heritage hotels have steps and no lift.
- Check how far the hotel is from the sights you care about, in minutes by road, not kilometres.
- Prefer free cancellation until close to the date, in case plans or health change.
- Look for 24-hour reception, in-house dining and a doctor-on-call policy.
- Read recent reviews for noise — old-city streets and wedding venues can be loud late.
For parents and senior travellers
Comfort notes for Mussoorie
- Use the cable car to reach Gun Hill rather than walking the hill roads. It is a short experience, quick and gives the best view without exertion.
- Book a car and driver for waterfall day trips. The roads are winding and involve steep parking areas; a reliable driver removes the stress.
- Stay on or very close to Mall Road if you dislike walking uphill multiple times a day. Camel's Back Road and Cloud End require drives or deliberate downhill walks.
- Avoid the central bazaar between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. during peak season (April–May, October–November); crowds, noise and vehicle congestion spike. Early morning (7–9 a.m.) and late afternoon (4–6 p.m.) are quieter.
