1 day in Mysuru

Day 1: Palace and hilltop
Arrive early at Mysore Palace, and give it a full morning or two hours before the crowds peak. The palace interiors are cool and the architecture repays slow walking. Return to your hotel or a restaurant for a substantial lunch, then rest for an hour if you have the time. In the late afternoon, drive or auto to Chamundi Hill. The ascent by vehicle takes about fifteen minutes; the hilltop temple itself is small but the views over the city and the surrounding landscape are broad. Return to the city centre as the light softens, and take an evening walk through Devaraja Market or near the old palace gates to see the bazaar life as traders close their shutters. End with a light dinner of dosas or local sweets.

Plan 02
2 days in Mysuru
- 01
Day 1: The palace and bazaars
Start at Mysore Palace early, taking your time with the courtyards, the durbar hall and the stained-glass screens. If photography is permitted, the morning light through the palace windows is worth lingering for. Have lunch in a traditional restaurant, then visit Sri Chamarajendra Art Gallery if you are interested in local art and sculpture, or the Government Museum for a broader cultural overview. Both are air-conditioned and a good midday rest from the heat. In the late afternoon, walk slowly through Devaraja Market and the old city lanes, stopping for local sweets at a street stall or small shop. Watch the market rhythm as it winds down in the early evening.

Day 2: Sacred and natural Mysuru
Take a car and drive to Chamundi Hill early, spend time at the temple and the hilltop, then descend and visit the Sri Nanjundeswara Temple at the base. Both are active temples with regular worship. If time allows and you are interested in Buddhist sites, visit Shravanabelagola, a hilltop sacred site with monumental stone sculptures, about an hour by road from Mysuru. If not, spend the afternoon in a local garden such as Brindavan Gardens, where you can rest and see the water channels and plantings. Return to the city and choose between a sunset visit to another temple for the evening aarti (prayers), or a relaxed evening at a café or by your hotel.

Plan 03
3 days in Mysuru
- 01
Day 1: The palace and old city
Begin with Mysore Palace early in the morning. Spend time with the architecture, the painted ceilings and the way light moves through the rooms. Have a late breakfast at a café or traditional restaurant, then walk through Devaraja Market and the old city streets. Visit Sri Chamarajendra Art Gallery if it draws you, or simply sit and observe. In the evening, take an auto to Chamundi Hill for the late-afternoon light and the temple. The crowds are thinner as the day ends.
- 02
Day 2: Temples and gardens
Start with Chamundi Hill early if you did not go yesterday, or spend a leisurely morning there. Descend and visit the Sri Nanjundeswara Temple at the base, a working temple with many worshippers. Lunch in a traditional Mysuru restaurant with thali or dosas. In the afternoon, visit Brindavan Gardens near the dam, where you can walk through the landscaped grounds, rest and watch the water. As the evening comes, return to the city and visit one of the old temples in the city—such as the Krishna Temple or the Bhoganandishvara Temple—to see the evening prayers and the lamps being lit.
- 03
Day 3: Arts and day trips
Spend a quiet morning at the Government Museum or Sri Chamarajendra Art Gallery, exploring the sculpture, textiles and traditional art forms at your own pace. Have a long lunch with a rest. In the late afternoon, consider a half-day trip to Shravanabelagola (about 1 hour by road) to climb the steps to the Bahubali monolith and see the views, or to Talakad, a ruined temple complex on the river. If you prefer to stay in the city, visit the Jagannath Temple in the evening to see the evening aarti, or walk through the city and choose a final evening spot. End with a sweet or savoury local meal and any shopping you have left undone in Devaraja Market or the bazaar streets.

Pacing
Make the plan work for everyone
- The palace is level and has seating areas; wear comfortable shoes and move at your own pace. A guide can explain the rooms if you wish, but self-paced is fine too.
- Chamundi Hill has vehicle access to the top; you need not climb if your knees are a concern. The temple at the summit is small and largely level.
- Plan one major sight per morning, rest after lunch and keep evenings gentle. The pace here is naturally slower than in bigger cities.
- Choose a hotel with lifts, near a hospital or pharmacy. C-type Bangalore hospitals have Mysuru branches if urgent care is needed.
- A private car and driver is worth hiring for Chamundi Hill, Shravanabelagola and Brindavan Gardens. It gives you rest between sights and avoids walking to distant parking.
- The old bazaar lanes are narrow and crowded; seniors may prefer the market early morning or a quick visit on the fringe rather than deep exploration.
