The short answer

When to go to Pai

The best window is November to February, when mornings are cool, rainfall is low and the hills are green. March and April are hot, and regional burning is commonly reported to affect air quality, though we have not verified levels for Pai. The rainy season from May to October brings landslide and flood risk on hill roads, and August is the wettest month. The climate figures come from the Mae Hong Son station in the same province at a lower altitude, so Pai itself may be a little cooler. Older travellers should avoid the wet months because of the winding road.
