Plan 01

1 day in Pandharpur

  1. 01

Day 1: Ghat, Pundalik and darshan

Start at the Mahadwar ghat in the early morning to see pilgrims bathing, then visit the Pundalik shrine at the water's edge if the river level allows. Move on to the Vitthal Rukmini temple for darshan, pausing at Chokhamela's samadhi and the Namdev Payari step at the gate. Rest in the afternoon. In the late afternoon, walk the pradakshina lanes and browse for tulsi beads, then return to the ghat for the evening light.

Plan 02

2 days in Pandharpur

  1. 01

Day 1: The old town and darshan

Spend the morning at the ghat and Pundalik shrine, then queue for darshan at the Vitthal temple before the midday break. After a rest, walk the lanes around the temple and the pradakshina road, stopping at Chokhamela's samadhi if you have not already.

  2. 02

Day 2: Gopalpur and quiet shrines

Drive to the Gopalpur side to see the Vishnupad shrine and the Gopalkrishna temple, checking the river level and session times first. Return for a relaxed lunch, an afternoon rest and a final walk along the ghat.

Plan 03

3 days in Pandharpur

  1. 01

Day 1: Arrival and the riverfront

Settle in, rest from the journey and walk the Chandrabhaga ghats at sunset. Have an early dinner and an early night to prepare for the pre-dawn queue.

  2. 02

Day 2: Darshan and the old town

Go for darshan early, pause at the saints' memorials at the gate, then spend the late morning at the Pundalik shrine. Rest in the afternoon and browse the temple-lane bazaar in the evening.

  3. 03

    Day 3: Gopalpur and onward

Visit the Vishnupad and Gopalkrishna shrines in the morning, then continue to Solapur or Pune, or take a quiet day around the town before departure.

Pacing

Pacing a Pandharpur trip for parents and children

  • Visit on a weekday outside Ekadashi and the wari weeks. The queue, not the walking, is the demanding part.
  • Go for darshan early in the morning, before the heat and the longer queues, and plan a rest through the afternoon.
  • Book rooms close to the temple well in advance, and confirm lift access and a car drop-off point.
  • Take water, a hat and shoes that are easy to remove, and carry only what you must into the temple.
  • Avoid the ghat steps in the monsoon, when they are slippery, and skip the river-edge shrines if water is high.
  • Use the temple committee's official portal for darshan passes and rooms, and ignore unofficial agents.
