How to reach Patiala by air

The nearest major airport is Chandigarh International Airport (IXC), about 60-70 km away, roughly 1.5 hours by road. Patiala's own airport handles limited general aviation and has no regular commercial flights.

How to reach Patiala by train

Patiala (PTA) is about 4 km from the centre but is not on a main line; some intercity trains run to Delhi and nearby cities. Ambala (UMB), about 60 km away, is better connected.

How to reach Patiala by road

Patiala is linked by highway to Chandigarh and Delhi, about 260 km away; regular buses run from the Sheran Wala Gate bus stand, and a private taxi is practical from Chandigarh.

Getting around Patiala

A car and driver is easiest for spread-out sights. Autos and e-rickshaws serve the old city and bazaars, and app cabs may be available; agree fares before setting off.

Easy transfers to and in Patiala

  • Hire a car and driver for the day; sights are spread out and old-city lanes are hard to navigate on foot.
  • Qila Mubarak and Adalat Bazaar involve uneven ground and crowds; go early, keep the visit short and have the car waiting at the edge of the lanes.
  • Carry photo ID for Moti Bagh and the NIS museum, and a scarf or head covering for gurdwaras.
  • Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
  • Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
  • Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
