Plan 01
1 day in Pavagada
- 01
Day 1: Fort and temples
Reach the town early, ideally by 8 am. Start at Kote Anjaneya at the foot of the hill, then climb as far up Pavagada Fort as you are comfortable with, keeping to the cool morning hours. Return for an early lunch in town, visit the Sri Shani Mahatma temple, and drive along the road towards Thirumani in the late afternoon for a look at the solar park landscape from the public road.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Pavagada Fort 1.5 to 3 hours depending on how high you climb Demanding November to February, from sunrise to about 10 am Sri Shani Mahatma Temple 20 to 40 minutes Easy Morning; Saturdays are Shani's traditional day and likely to be busier Pace: Pavagada Fort involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.
With parents at Pavagada Fort: The path climbs a granite hill with uneven steps and little shade or seating. Older visitors and anyone with knee or breathing issues should view the walls from the base and visit Kote Anjaneya instead; going up with a companion is wise.
Plan 02
2 days in Pavagada
- 01
Day 1: Pavagada town
Spend the morning on the fort and Kote Anjaneya. After lunch and a rest, visit the Shani Mahatma temple and walk through the town market. Stay overnight in Pavagada if you are happy with basic rooms, or return to Tumakuru or Hindupur.
- 02
Day 2: Lepakshi or Madhugiri
Choose one outing. Lepakshi, via Hindupur, suits temple and mural lovers and involves little walking. Madhugiri suits fit travellers who want a long hill climb; the lower sections of its fort can be seen without going to the summit.

Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Pavagada trip for parents and children
- Visit the temples first and treat the fort climb as optional; the hill path is uneven and steep in places, with little shade.
- Carry at least a litre of water per person, a hat and sturdy shoes; there are few shops on the fort route.
- Start by 8 am. Even in winter, bare granite warms up quickly by late morning.
- Use the town as a short stop, not a base, if anyone needs a lift, regular medical access or reliable room facilities; Tumakuru is better equipped.
- Fuel up and use restrooms in Tumakuru, Madhugiri or Hindupur before heading to the taluk; facilities in Pavagada are basic.
- Heat: March to May is hot in this dry belt, and bare granite adds to it. Do the fort in the first hours after sunrise and rest through the afternoon.
