The short answer
Jakham Dam and Reservoir: what visitors should know first
A pleasant stop if you are already in the area, especially after the monsoon, but not a destination in itself. Go for the view, a picnic and sunset, not for facilities.
History and context
The story behind Jakham Dam and Reservoir
The foundation stone was laid on 14 May 1968 by Chief Minister Mohan Lal Sukhadia. The dam was completed in 1986 and the irrigation project in March 2000. It is about 253 m long with a 90 m spillway, and irrigates villages in the Dhariawad sub-division.

Why it matters
Why Jakham Dam and Reservoir is worth your time
Jakham is the main irrigation work of this part of southern Rajasthan and shapes the farming of villages in the Dhariawad area. Built on a tributary of the Mahi, it is a reminder that this corner of the state is wetter and greener than the desert image of Rajasthan suggests.
For visitors, its value is as a calm place to pause between the forest and the temples. It will not take much of your day, and it adds a different texture to a trip that is otherwise about shrines and forest.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Plan Jakham as an easy half-hour stop on the road towards Dhariawad or Sita Mata, not as a standalone trip. The best time is late afternoon, when the light softens over the water and the surrounding hills.
Stand near the embankment for a view of the reservoir and the spillway. After a good monsoon, the water is high and the landscape green, while in the dry months the lake shrinks and the banks look bare. Carry your own water and snacks; there are no organised cafes.
Do not swim or wade, and keep children away from the edge. Birdlife on the water can be good in winter, so bring binoculars if you have them.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
