How to reach Rajkot by air
Rajkot International Airport (HSR) is at Hirasar, about 36 km from the city, roughly 45 minutes to an hour by road depending on traffic. The older airport in the city (RAJ) now handles general aviation only. Many travellers also fly into Ahmedabad (AMD) and continue by road or rail.
How to reach Rajkot by train
Rajkot Junction (RJT) is the main station, with direct services from major Indian cities; book well ahead as waitlists are common. Bhaktinagar (BKNG) is a smaller station on lines towards Somnath, Veraval, Junagadh and Porbandar.
How to reach Rajkot by road
National Highway 47 passes through Rajkot, and GSRTC and private buses connect it with Ahmedabad, Jamnagar and other Saurashtra towns. Jamnagar is about 90 km away and Gondal about 38 km.
Getting around Rajkot
Auto-rickshaws and app cabs are the easiest way to move around the central city; agree fares first. A BRTS corridor and Rajkot's city buses run too. A hired car and driver is best for Gondal and other day trips.
For parents and senior travellers
Easy transfers to and in Rajkot
- Hire a car with driver for Gondal rather than taking local buses, and carry water and any regular medicines.
- Ask the airline or railway for wheelchair or porter assistance when you book, not on the day.
- Pre-book the pickup from the airport or station, so nobody has to negotiate with drivers after a long journey.
- Choose arrivals in daylight where you can, and keep the first afternoon free to rest.
