Pacing
Pacing a Rajmahal trip for parents and children
- The monuments are open ruins on uneven ground with no seating. Visit in the morning and take a folding stool or wait in the car between stops if mobility is limited.
- Udhwa is best done by car, with short walks along the lake edge, rather than on foot over long distances.
- Moti Jharna involves walking from the road to the glen. Ask locally about the current path before deciding.
- Carry water, snacks, medicines and cash. ATMs and pharmacies are limited outside Rajmahal and Sahibganj.
- Plan around the heat: April to June is very hot, and the monsoon makes roads slippery and ruins muddy.
- Heat: May is the hottest month, with highs above 37 degrees Celsius on the nearby Bhagalpur record. Visit the ruins in the first hours after sunrise and rest through the afternoon.
