Plan 01
1 day in Sangla
- 01
Day 1: Kamru and the town
Start with Kamru Fort in the morning, taking a taxi to the village and climbing slowly, then visit the Badri Vishal temple on the way. Return to Sangla for a simple lunch and a visit to Bering Nag temple and the market. Spend the late afternoon on a short Baspa river walk, keeping to level paths. Check road conditions before arriving and do not plan a late-night drive.
Stop Time needed Walking Best time Kamru Fort 1 to 1.5 hours including the climb and a rest Demanding Morning, May to October; the steps are slippery after rain or snow Bering Nag Temple 30 to 45 minutes Easy Morning or late afternoon; the Fulaich fair in August or September is busier Baspa River Walk 1 to 2 hours for a partial walk Moderate May to October; mornings are clearest Pace: Kamru Fort involves a lot of walking or steps — do it early, and keep the rest of the day light.
With parents at Kamru Fort: The approach is a long flight of steps through the village with few places to sit, at an altitude of roughly 2,600 to 2,900 m (sources vary), so breathlessness is common. Older travellers can drive to Kamru, enjoy the lower courtyard and temple area and skip the full climb.
With parents at Baspa River Walk: Paths near the river are uneven and some stretches slope; the river is loud and the bank is unfenced. Seniors can do a short level section or stay on the road bridges and viewpoints.

Pacing
Pacing a Sangla trip for parents and children
- Arrive early in the day and rest on arrival; Sangla is around 2,650 to 2,700 m and altitude can make steps and stairs tiring.
- Choose the lower-effort sights first: Bering Nag temple, the market and a short level river walk.
- Ask for a ground-floor room and confirm heating, as nights are cold even in summer.
- Kamru Fort involves a long flight of steps; older travellers can visit the village and lower temple and skip the top.
- Carry any medicines, a basic first-aid kit and enough cash. Medical facilities in the valley are limited.
- Keep the drive in daylight and expect delays in the monsoon and winter.
