The short answer
Don Hill Station: what visitors should know first
Go as a monsoon day trip from Saputara for a green, empty plateau with cliff views and few facilities. It is a drive-up place with short, easy walks. Carry your own food and water.
History and context

Why it matters
Why Don Hill Station is worth your time
Don shows the Dangs without Saputara's resorts and boating lake: a small village, open plateau and deep forest on every side. It is busiest in the monsoon, when the plateau is green and streams run off the edges.
The district is largely tribal, and the plateau is a working village rather than a resort. Visit quietly, ask before photographing people, and take your rubbish back with you. For families staying in Saputara, it is a calm contrast to the busy lake and ropeway.

Plan your visit
How to experience it
Don lies about 33 km from Ahwa and 55 km from Saputara by road. Before a new road opened in 2013 it was a much longer drive. The approach climbs through the Dang forest and passes near Pandav village, where there are waterfalls and caves worth a stop in the rains.
On the plateau, at about 1,000 m (3,300 ft), walk out to Vulture Point, a cliff where vultures and other raptors ride the air currents above the valley. Short, easy walks across the grassland and along the edge give views over forest and hills; the light is best in the morning before cloud builds.
There is little in the way of shops or restaurants, so pack lunch, water and rain gear, and plan to be back in Saputara or Ahwa before dark.
Plan with confidence
Small decisions that make the visit easier.
- Carry food and water; facilities are scarce
- Keep well back from cliff edges at Vulture Point
- Drive the hill roads in daylight
- Pack rain gear in the monsoon
