Guides for the stops on these routes
Pacing
Pacing a Sigiriya trip for parents and children
- Climb the rock at opening time. By late morning the steps are hot, crowded and without shade.
- If the climb is too much, do the Water Gardens and the museum. The gardens give the best view of the planning.
- Use a licensed guide to pace the climb and to explain the frescoes; agree the price first.
- Carry water, a hat, sunscreen and a light layer; the summit is windy.
- Safari jeeps are bumpy. Ask for a cushion or a vehicle with a step and avoid the hottest hours.
- Travel insurance with medical cover matters, as the nearest large hospitals are in Dambulla and further afield.
