Plan 01

1 day in Songadh

  1. 01

    Day 1: Fort and reservoir

Reach Songadh early from Surat and climb the fort in the cool morning, reading the signboard at the entrance and taking in the views from the top. Have lunch in town, rest, then drive about 13 km to Ukai Dam for the Vallabh Sagar reservoir in the late afternoon.

Plan 02

2 days in Songadh

  1. 01

    Day 1: Songadh Fort

Arrive in the morning, climb the fort slowly and spend the rest of the day resting and exploring the town.

    StopTime neededWalkingBest time
Songadh Fort1 to 2 hoursModerateOctober to February, and early morning; avoid the monsoon when paths are slippery

Pace: Moderate walking today — plan a sit-down break between stops.

With parents at Songadh Fort: The fort is on a solitary hill and reached on foot; a trekking guide describes it as a small, easy climb of roughly half an hour. Surfaces are uneven, and there is little published about railings, shade or seating, so older visitors should go slowly and carry water.

  2. 02

Day 2: Ukai Dam and onward

Visit Ukai Dam in the morning, confirm what is open, then continue to Surat or the Dangs.

Plan 03

3 days in Songadh

  1. 01

    Day 1: Arrival

Drive from Surat and settle in. Walk around town and note the fort on the hill.

  2. 02

    Day 2: Fort and reservoir

Climb Songadh Fort early, then spend the afternoon at Ukai Dam and the reservoir.

Pacing

Pacing a Songadh trip for parents and children

  • Go to the fort in the cool morning or late afternoon, and avoid the monsoon when paths are slippery.
  • The climb is short but uneven; wear shoes with grip and take your time.
  • There are few facilities at the fort or dam, so carry water, snacks and a hat.
  • Travel by car or taxi rather than relying on local transport.
  • Stay in Surat or Vyara if you need comfort and a wider choice of food.
  • Heat: April and May are hot. Climb the fort only early in the morning, or choose the cooler months.
