The island has a few structures: the main palace block with rooms and courtyards, an adjoining gateway structure and defensive walls that once housed a garrison. The marble work is fine but plainer than Lake Palace, and the overall impression is more martial. Historians believe Shah Jahan's daughter Jahanara sought refuge here during her father's later years, and later the Mughal prince Dara Shikoh hid there during his conflict with his brothers.
